Teaching Objectives: Students should master the dialogue and rule of comparative adjectives.

Properties: Tape recorder, some objects to compare.
Teaching Procedures:
Step 1 Revision
Teacher: What are you going to do tonight?
Student A: I’m going to do my homework.
Student B: I’m going to play football.
Step 2 Leading – in
教师问8月15日在中国是什么日子,学生肯定能用中文回答:中秋节。并让学生谈谈如何欢庆中秋节。然后告诉学生中秋节的英语是Mid-Autumn Day。
Explain Mid (=Middle), Autumn and Day (=Festival). Give more examples, e.g. Teachers’ Day, Women’s Day, Children’s Day, National Day, Christmas Day.
Step 3 Read and act
Play the tape for the students and ask What day is tomorrow?
Teach the word mooncake by showing a mooncake. Use nuts to teach the word nut.
Explain that in some mooncakes we have eggs, meat or nuts or something sweet. Then ask students what do we eat mooncake?
Explain the difference between evening and night.
Play the tape again. Students listen and repeat. Do Wb Ex 1.

Saying Tomorrow I m going to have a party, would you like to come?
Help students to answer “Yes, I’d like to”. “Yes, I’d love to” or “Sorry, I can’t go.”
Get students to ask and answer “Would you like to …?” “Yes/No, sorry…”
Divide the class into two groups to practise the dialogue, then get the students to work in pairs.
Then get the students to talk about What do we usually do on Mid - Autumn Festival?
Step 4 Presentation
Show students a ruler, say This ruler is long. Show a longer one, say “This ruler is longer” write “long -longer” on the board.
Compare more things to teach comparative adjectives.
The boy is taller than the girl.
The blackboard on the front wall is bigger than the one on the back wall.
Tom’s picture is nicer than Mary’s.
This bag is heavier than that one.”
Write down some comparatives on the blackboard. Read them through and pay attention to the ending spelling as well as pronounciation of these words:
Big →bigger long →longer heavy → heavier light→lighter small →smaller
Help students to find out the rules
Step 5 Read and practice
Get the students to look at the pictures and follow the example in pairs. Then they make more sentences with comparative adjectives.
Hold up items and get students to make sentences with comparatives.
Wang Ping is tall. Zhang Hong is taller (ask two tall students to stand up)
Get the students to make comparisons, using other adjectives.
Step 6 Exercises in class
1. Write out the comparative forms
bright, short, thin, fat, easy, early, sweet, nice, wise, red
2. To makes sentences to compare two things
Answers:
1. brighter, shorter, thinner, fatter, easier, earlier, sweeter, nicer, wiser, redder

1. Compare things of your home.
2. Finish off the workbook exercises.
