Teaching Procedures:
Step 1 Spelling and pronunciation
Give two words and , ask Ss to give letter combinations that make the two sounds.
Summarize the pronunciation rules of and .
Play the tape for the students to listen and repeat.
Practise the pronunciation of individual sounds and show the students flashcards with more words.
Step 2 Word Puzzle: A “Word Ladder”
Have the students complete the word puzzle ladder in the book.
Step 3 Listening
Play the tape for the students to listen, ask What day is tomorrow? and get the main idea
Play the tape 2nd time: answer questions on Page 110 Check answers
Play the tape 3rd time: Listen and Check again
Step 4 Ask and answer
Showing the students the map, ask What is the name of Bill’s hometown?
Play the tape for the students to listen. Check the answer and find it out on the map.
Teach the word village.
Practise the dialogue in pairs. Have the pairs make up their own dialogue asking about their actual hometown.
Ask friends “Where do you live?” (draw a brief map)
Step 5 Read and learn
Teach the word strong by showing a picture or two boys.
Go through the contents of the box with the class, then have the students talk about their best friend in small groups.
